Taxonomy
Aframonius dieides was named by Simons et al. (1995). Its type specimen is CGM 42202, a mandible (left dentary with well preserved P3-M3), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Quarry L-41 (Jebel Qatrani Formation), which is in a Rupelian lacustrine mudstone in the Jebel Qatrani Formation of Egypt. It is the type species of Aframonius.
