Lomorupithecus was named by Rossie and MacLatchy (2006). It is not extant. Its type is Lomorupithecus harrisoni.
It was assigned to Pliopithecoidea by Rossie and MacLatchy (2006); and to Propliopithecoidea by Zalmout et al. (2010).
