Chalcis was named by Fabricius (1787). It is extant. It is the type genus of Chalcididae, Chalcidoidea, Chalcidinae, Chalcidini.
It was assigned to Synistata by Fabricius (1787); to Piezata by Fabricius (1798); to Cynipsera by Latreille (1802); to Chalcididae by Carpenter (1992); and to Chalcidini by Munro et al. (2011), Heraty et al. (2013).
