Taxonomy
Meandrina soemmeringii was named by Muenster (1829). It is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Microphyllia.

It was recombined as Latimaeandra soemmeringii by Milne-Edwards and Haime (1857); it was recombined as Microphyllia soemmeringii by D'Orbigny (1849), d'Orbigny (1850) and Vaughan and Wells (1943).
