Taxonomy
Astrea microconos was named by Goldfuss (1826). Its type specimen is BIOB-PB-Goldfuss-213, a skeleton, and it is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Centrastrea microconos by d'Orbigny (1850); it was recombined as Thamnasteria microconos by Geyer (1954).
