Taxonomy

Pristapenesia was named by Brues (1933). It is extant. It is the type genus of Pristapenesiinae.

It was assigned to Pristocerinae by Sorg (1988); to Bethylidae by Carpenter (1992); to Scolebythidae by Brothers and Janzen (1999); and to Pristapenesiinae by Engel et al. (2013), Engel (2015), Lepeco and Melo (2023).

Synonyms

Dominibythus was named by Prentice and Poinar (1996).

It was synonymized subjectively with Pristapenesia by Brothers and Janzen (1999), Engel and Grimaldi (2007), Engel et al. (2013).

It was assigned to Scolebythidae by Prentice and Poinar (1996).
