Taxonomy

Plagiolepis was named by Mayr (1861). It is extant. It is the type genus of Plagiolepidini.

It was assigned to Formicidae by Carpenter (1992); and to Plagiolepidini by Wheeler (1915), Bolton (2003), Bolton (2012), Ward et al. (2016).

Synonyms

Rhopalomyrmex was named by Mayr (1868). Its type is Rhopalomyrmex pygmaeus.

It was synonymized subjectively with Plagiolepis by Bolton (2012).

It was assigned to Plagiolepidini by Wheeler (1915); and to Formicidae by Carpenter (1992).
