Taxonomy

Palaeovespa was named by Cockerell (1906). It is not extant. Its type is Palaeovespa florissantia.

It was assigned to Vespidae by Cockerell (1906), Cockerell (1911), Carpenter (1992), Poinar (2005); and to Vespinae by Nel and Auvray (2006), Perrard et al. (2016).
