Taxonomy

Xylocopa was named by Latreille (1802). It is extant. It is the type genus of Xylocopini, Xylocopae.

It was assigned to Xylocopae by Latreille (1802); to Xylocopinae by Pongrácz (1931), Statz (1936); to Apidae by Carpenter (1992); and to Xylocopini by Zeuner and Manning (1976), Engel (2001), Engel (2021).
