Saxuligyra maior was named by Eliasova (1991). Its type locality is Vitesov (Polypiers), Czechia, which is in a Turonian carbonate limestone in the Bila hora Formation of the Czech Republic.
It was recombined as Somalica maior by Baron-Szabo (2009).
