Eocyphinium was named by Reed (1942) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l C Serp-l]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Phillipsiinae by Osmólska (1970); to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Proetidae by Jell and Adrain (2002).

H. Osmólska 1970Exoskeleton spinose, "subcrania l furrow" present along the cephalon ;
short gena l spines; anterior border vertica l, upturned, attached to glabella which is con stricted medially and at least as broad fronta lly as across the base ; weakly pronounced pre occipital lobe present; anterior branch of facial suture parallel to axial furrow; pygidium long to very long ; axis of 14-17 rings, ribs consisting only of anterior bands, the posterior ones forming th eir slopes .
