Taxonomy
Astrea araneola was named by Michelin (1844). It is a 3D body fossil.

It was recombined as Centrastrea araneola by d'Orbigny (1850); it was recombined as Thamnastraea araneola by Milne-Edwards and Haime (1857); it was recombined as Stereocaenia araneola by Beauvais (1964).
