Trigoniocardia (Trigoniocardia) melajoensis was named by Jung (1969). Its type specimen is USNM 645354, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Trigoniocardia (Goniacardia) melajoensis by Woodring (1982), Vokes (1989).
