Cardium (Dinocardium) ecuadorialis was named by Olsson (1932). It is a 3D body fossil. It is the type species of Dinocardium (Exocardium).
It was recombined as Dinocardium ecuadorialis by Marks (1951); it was recombined as Dinocardium (Exocardium) ecuadorialis by Olsson (1964); it was recombined as Dinocardium ecuadoriale by Woodring (1982).
