Anatina was named by Schumacher (1817) [Sepkoski's age data: T Plio-l R]. It is extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Laternula by Hedley (1918).

It was assigned to Pteropsellinae by Vokes (1980); to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); to Mactridae by Rosenberg (2005); and to Kymatoxinae by Signorelli and Carter (2016).
