Byssocardium was named by Munier-Chalmas (1882) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m T Mi-l]. It is not extant. Its type is Cardium emarginatum.
It was assigned to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Tridacninae by Harzhauser et al. (2008).
