Taxonomy
Mesocupedini was named by Ponomarenko (1969).

It was considered an invalid subgroup of Cupedinae by Kirejtshuk et al. (2016), Kirejtshuk (2020); it was reranked as the subfamily Mesocupedinae by Bouchard et al. (2011), Cai et al. (2022).

It was assigned to Cupedinae by Soriano and Delclos (2006), Tan and Ren (2009), Ponomarenko (2014), Strelnikova (2019); and to Cupedidae by Bouchard et al. (2011), Cai et al. (2022).
