Taxonomy
Geinitzia varia was named by Bode (1953). Its type specimen is PIUC 402-1, a forewing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Hondelage, Braunschweig, which is in a Toarcian offshore mudstone in the Posidonia Shale Formation of Germany.
