Pliomerina was named by Chugaeva (1956) [Sepkoski's age data: O Llvi-u O Cara-u]. Its type is Pliomera martelli.

It was assigned to Phacopida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pliomeridae by Jell and Adrain (2002).
