Psammotellina was named by Fischer (1887) [Sepkoski's age data: Q Plei R Sepkoski's reference number: 1112]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Sanguinolariinae by Vokes (1980); to Psammobiidae by Lamprell and Whitehead (1992); and to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002).
