Sakawanella was named by Ichikawa (1950) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Carn-l Sepkoski's reference number: 94,864]. It is not extant. Its type is Sakawanella triadica.
It was assigned to Veneroida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Tancrediidae by Hayami (1975) and Ros-Franch et al. (2014).
