Lonsdaleiastraea complexa was named by Dobrolyubova (1936).

It was recombined as Pseudocystophora complexa by Fedorowski et al. (2007); it was recombined as Protolonsdaleiastraea complexa by Minato and Kato (1965), Kossovaya and Kulagina (2023).
