Meixiella postiretis was named by Huang et al. (1991). Its type specimen is NIGP 109269, a forewing (forewing), and it is an impression. Its type locality is Meixi, Yiyang County, which is in a Sinemurian paralic siliciclastic in the Shuibei Formation of China. It is the type species of Meixiella.

It was recombined as Shurabia postiretis by Storozhenko (1997), Storozhenko (1998), Lai and Huang (2025).
