Cryptolithoides was named by Whittington (1941) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara-l O Cara-u Sepkoski's reference number: 795]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Trinucleidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Asaphida by Sepkoski (2002).
