Scytocixius was named by Martynov (1937). Its type is Scytocixius mendax.
It was assigned to Scytinopteridae by Evans (1956); to Cixiidae by Martynov (1937) and Becker-Migdisova (1961); and to Surijokocixiidae by Shcherbakov (2000), Szwedo et al. (2004) and Bourgoin and Szwedo (2023).
