Taxonomy

Polyphyllastrea icaunensis was named by d'Orbigny (1850). It is not extant.

It was recombined as Polyphylloseris icaunensis by Fromentel (1857), Baron-Szabo (2018).

Synonyms

Polyphyllastrea simondsi was named by Wells (1932). Its type locality is Pleasant Valley Crossing, Blanco River, which is in an Albian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in the Glen Rose Limestone Formation of Texas.

It was recombined as Polyphylloseris simondsi by Wells (1943); it was synonymized subjectively with Polyphylloseris distefanoi by Tomás et al. (2008); it was recombined as Elephantaria simondsi by Baron-Szabo (2009); it was synonymized subjectively with Polyphylloseris icaunensis by Baron-Szabo (2018).
