Delphax was named by Fabricius (1798). It is extant. It is the type genus of Delphacidae, Delphacinae, Delphacini.
It was assigned to Ryngota by Fabricius (1798); to Fulgoridae by Scudder (1877), Cockerell (1921); to Delphacidae by Statz (1950), Szwedo et al. (2004); and to Delphacini by Urban et al. (2010), Dmitriev (2020), Borodin and Borodina (2021).
