Taxonomy

Blatta was named by Linnaeus (1758). It is extant. It is the type genus of Blattinae, Blattidae, Blattoidea.

It was assigned to Gymnoptera by Schaeffer (1766); to Hemiptera by Linnaeus (1767); to Ulonata by Fabricius (1775); to Coleoptera by Linnaeus (1758), Linnaeus (1761), Geoffroy (1762), Scopoli (1763), Müller (1764) and Müller (1776); to Orthoptera by Latreille (1796) and Latreille (1802); to Blattidae by Förster (1891); and to Blattinae by Šmídová (2020) and Djernæs and Murienne (2022).
