Taxonomy
Phryganea nigripennis was named by Piton (1940). Its type specimen is Coll. Piton 218, a wing (parts of wing), and it is an impression. Its type locality is Menat (Piton collection), which is in a Selandian crater lake diatomite in the Menat Formation of France.
