Taxonomy
Plecia kelownaensis was named by Rice (1959). Its type specimen is GSC 14423, an exoskeleton (disarticulated body with two wings), and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Mission Creek, which is in a Ypresian lacustrine shale in Canada.
