Leptoplastides was named by Raw (1908) [Sepkoski's age data: O Trem-l O Trem-u Sepkoski's reference number: 80,378].

It was assigned to Pelturinae by Robison and Pantoja-Alor (1968); to Olenidae by Moore (1959), Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Ptychopariida by Sepkoski (2002).
