Taxonomy
Philydrus morticinus was named by von Heyden and von Heyden (1866). Its type specimen is NHM P(IV) 58747, an exoskeleton, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Rott (Krantz Bonn coll), which is in a MP 30 lacustrine - large shale in the Rott Formation of Germany.

It was recombined as Philhydrus morticinus by Scudder (1885); it was recombined as Berosus morticinus by Statz (1939); it was recombined as Berosus (Berosus) morticinus by Fikáček et al. (2010).
