Hydrobiusina was named by Mulsant (1844). It is extant.

It was reranked as the tribe Hydrobiusini by Short and Fikáček (2013) and Fikáček et al. (2014).

It was assigned to Hydrophilini by Bouchard et al. (2011); and to Hydrophilinae by Short and Fikáček (2013) and Fikáček et al. (2014).
