Taxonomy
Plecia longiventris was named by Theobald (1937). Its type specimen is Nimes. Museum Ni 7(3), an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Les Fumades, which is in an Eocene lacustrine marl in France.
It was recombined as Penthetria longiventris by Skartveit and Nel (2017).
