Taxonomy
Bathyactis excelsa was named by Dennant (1904). It is not extant. Its type locality is Spring Creek, Dennant collection, which is in an Oligocene marine horizon in Australia.

It was recombined as Fungiacyathus (Bathyactis) excelsa by Filkorn (1994).
