Taxonomy
Orbitoproetus was named by Pillet (1969) [Sepkoski's age data: D Gedi D Give-u Sepkoski's reference number: 933,1106]. It is not extant. Its type is Proetus orbitatus.

It was assigned to Proetida by Sepkoski (2002); to Proetidae by Jell and Adrain (2002); and to Proetinae by Feist and Petersen (1995), Flick (1998) and Bault et al. (2021).
