Taxonomy
Trigona prisca was named by Michener and Grimaldi (1988). Its type specimen is AMNH C88720, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is New Jersey amber, Delaware River, Kinkora, which is in a Maastrichtian terrestrial amber in New Jersey. It is the type species of Cretotrigona.
It was recombined as Cretotrigona prisca by Engel (2000) and Engel et al. (2023).
