Symplecta (Psiloconopa) penalveri was named by Krzemiński and Arillo (2008) [Museum of Natural Sciences of Ãlava, Vitoria, Spain.]. Its type specimen is MNSA 13519, a wing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Izarra (MCNA collection), which is in a Miocene lacustrine claystone in Spain.
