Taxonomy
Cretosphex magnus was named by Darling (1990). Its type specimen is AMNH 44107, an exoskeleton, and it is a compression fossil.

It was recombined as Angarosphex magnus by Rasnitsyn and Jarzembowski (1998), Zhang et al. (2018), Jon et al. (2019).
