Pompilopterus worssami was named by Rasnitsyn and Jarzembowski (1998). Its type specimen is BMB 018508/9, a forewing, and it is an impression. Its type locality is New pit, Clockhouse Brickworks, which is in a Hauterivian lagoonal sandstone in the Weald Clay Formation of the United Kingdom.
