Taxonomy
Gonatopus was named by Ljungh (1810). It is extant. It is the type genus of Gonatopodinae.

It was assigned to Dryininae by Ashmead (1893), Kieffer (1905); and to Gonatopodinae by Olmi et al. (2010), Olmi and Virla (2014), Tribull (2015).
