Taxonomy
Montastrea peninsularis was named by Weisbord (1973). It is not extant. Its type locality is Ballast Point, Silex Bed [Tampa Limestone], which is in a Chattian/Aquitanian shallow subtidal limestone in the Arcadia Formation of Florida.
