Orbicella farquharsoni was named by Latham (1929). It is not extant. Its type locality is Dubino, Berbera area, which is in an Oligocene reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in Somalia.
It was recombined as Heliastrea farquharsoni by Azzaroli (1958).
