Amnestus guapinolinus was named by Thomas (1988). Its type specimen is Cat. No. CV-020 , an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Mexican amber (Villar Coll.), which is in a Miocene terrestrial amber in Mexico.
