Taxonomy
Gonomyia (Palaeogonomyia) elegantula was named by Meunier (1906). Its type specimen is Konigsberg 5055, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Baltic amber, Konigsberg collection, which is in a Priabonian terrestrial amber in the Russian Federation.

It was recombined as Rhabdomastix (Palaeogonomyia) elegantula by Alexander (1931); it was recombined as Rhabdomastix (Rhabdomastix) elegantula by Podenas (2006).
