Taxonomy
Oecophylla atavina was named by Cockerell (1915). Its type specimen is USNM 61419, an exoskeleton, and it is an impression. Its type locality is Bembridge Marls (Brodie coll), which is in a Priabonian lagoonal/restricted shallow subtidal lime mudstone in the Bouldnor Formation of the United Kingdom.
