Taxonomy
Beaufortiscus dixi was named by Riek (1976). Its type specimen is NM 950ab, a tegmen (complete tegmen), and it is an impression. Its type locality is Lidgetton (Lid 111), which is in a Changhsingian delta plain shale in the Estcourt Formation of South Africa.
