Taxonomy
Ponopterix was named by Vršanský and Grimaldi (1999). Its type is Ponopterix axelrodi. It is the type genus of Ponopterixidae.
It was assigned to Ponopterixidae by Nel et al. (2014); to Dictyoptera by Kirejtshuk et al. (2014); and to Umenocoleidae by Vršanský and Grimaldi (1999), Vršanský (2003), Vršanský (2004), Bechly (2007), Lee (2016), Luo et al. (2022), Luo et al. (2022).
