Xiphocentron (Xiphocentron) chiapasi was named by Wichard and Solorzano (2006). Its type specimen is Ponar TR 2-10, an exoskeleton, and it is an inclusion in amber. Its type locality is Mexican amber (Poinar coll), which is in a Miocene terrestrial amber in Mexico.
