Plectrocentropus sulis was named by Sukacheva (1993). Its type specimen is PIN 3965/314, a wing (distal portions of fore and hindwings), and it is a compression fossil. Its type locality is Khutel-Khara, PIN collection 3965, which is in a Valanginian/Barremian lacustrine - small siliciclastic in the Tsagaantsav Formation of Mongolia. It is the type species of Plectrocentropus.
